Public Benches
Collaboration - Lois O'Hara
This project was created for a public art open call in Portslade, developed in collaboration with Brighton artist Lois O’Hara. The aim was to translate Lois’s distinctive flowing 2D linework into a set of sculptural outdoor pieces.Working alongside a local stonemason, we hand-carved each element from solid sandstone blocks, shaping the curves and profiles directly from Lois’s drawings. The main piece is a large, wave-inspired bench, paired with a smaller sculptural form installed elsewhere on the site. The finished works bring Lois’s movement-led aesthetic into the landscape as both public sculpture and functional seating, adding character and playfulness to the new neighbourhood.
